If it has been a long time since you have had a date, you might need a little practice first. Ask a friend of your desired sex to help you with this. Any good friend will be happy to go on a practice date with you if you offer to pay. If you can't find a friend to help you, you need better friends.

When you go on your practice date, ask your friend to pretend you have just met for the first time. Have him or her look you over the way they would on a first date. If you have any hygiene flaws you would be better to hear this from a friend than from a total stranger that you are trying to get to know.

Have them give you a step by step, do this and don't do this, as you go along. Ask them to point out what they expected to happen and what really happened. An example of this would be if you opened the door for your date...this might be considered too chauvinistic for the women in your area. Or if you opened the door for yourself and this is considered too feminist for the men in your area.

Ask your practice date to be open and honest with you so you will not make these mistakes when it really matters.

When the practice date is over, you should have a much better understanding of what the new dating world is all about. If you are still unsure, a second date with a different friend can't hurt.
